New Year, Lets Get Started!

Hey y'all,

First, we want to thank you all for being such a blessing in our lives. We are so thankful looking back on where our group has come from, and where God will take it in 2012. Each and everyone of you are a blessing in our lives and we count you among our closest friends. We pray everyone has a BLESSED New Year's Eve, and remember as you are celebrating with family and friends, "And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father" -Col 3:17.

Secondly, I know that Berna & Horia are still in Romania, but everyone else is back and with us (the Franklins leave soon for their mission trip). I am putting the food rotation out there again, kinda starting fresh since we now have some new members, etc. The rotation will be as follows:

FYI...It's Christmas!!!

If you haven't noticed, The Shiver family loves Christmas. It is the most joyous celebration of Christ's humble beginning on this earth. We "Griswold" our house, have parties, buy a lot of stuff, cancel small group, and hopefully increase awareness of what the season is all about. (Wait, what was that I said? Cancel small group?) We are going to cancel small group this week - sort of. Instead of meeting at our house we are going to meet at a restaurant and fellowship there. Most groups take a few weeks off during the holidays because people are out of town and everyone is busy, etc. I thought about doing that, but decided better of it because we like you all and want to be with you. We will take a vote between now and noon tomorrow about where to go so please let me know where you would like to go and the highest votes wins.

Small Group Christmas... Tues Dec. 13th

Hi all! Sorry I haven't gotten this out sooner! This has been a crazy week for us, thank you all for the prayers and texts/emails. You all are wonderful and we are so thankful for you!!!!

That being said, we are ON for Tuesday, and plan to celebrate!!! We will be having a Mexican food potluck. This menu requires your involvement! Please EMAIL or TEXT me to sign up for one of the items below. Tim & Elena are making us the delicious entree. Let me know by Sunday night what you want to bring and I will bring whatever is left over! Also, this is a fellowship night, so plan on bringing your kids, family, etc. Also, if you are NOT coming, please also email me with that so I know.

Lastly, this is our last week to bring gifts for the Morales'. Many of you have chosen to do gift cards and that is great. Whatever you are getting, please bring it on Tuesday. Tuesday night we will sign up for the meal we are going to give them. We planned to deliver it on Wednesday, but we will see what night would be best for them.

Small Group--December 6th--CANCELLED :(

Hey ya'll,

Sorry for having to cancel in the middle of our study on Tuesday but thanks for understanding. Unfortunately, we have to cancel next Tuesday. Grandpa Chrone's funeral is on Tuesday at 1pm, and we will have a lot of family in town and a reception after the funeral on Tuesday, so we will not be home in time to host. Thanks for all your support, we will meet again on the 13th for our white elephant exchange and our Christmas party. More to come on that next week. We miss you guys, take care and as always call us if you need anything!!!

Announcements and Dinner 11.29

Hi All, hope everyone is pleasantly plumped and full of Turkey! We also pray you all had a very blessed Thanksgiving and restful weekend! I am SORRY that this is late, we were busy and I didn't get the menu out in time. Therefore, its pizza week! See below (after you read the rest!) for dinner details!

For those of you who missed Tuesday's group, I wanted to send out a short recap b/c we talked about an important decision that Miles and I had to make. Before I get to that, please remember to start purchasing gifts for the Morales' family and bringing them back anytime. I already have a few, and we need them here by the 13th! Let me know if you have any questions on this.

Ok, on to business. This is a decision that Miles and I did not make easily and have been praying about for several weeks. But, going forward, our 'small' group is considered 'closed' to new members. Right now, if everyone comes (which you usually do!) we have 16 members, and we have two potential couples that may or may not be joining us in the next few weeks. As much as we would like to keep the group open for everyone and anyone, we are running out of space, it is getting harder and harder to cook for such a large group, and we are losing the intimacy of a 'small' group. God has blessed us so much, but we feel that 20 people is absolute MAX, with 16 or less being our preference. Therefore, if you have friends, family, etc that want to join, please bear in mind that our group is closed. We will be very happy to help you find a group for anyone you know who might want to join one... We hope and pray that you all understand why we need to make this decision. Tuesday we also asked that if anyone is feeling led to become a leader in the future, please let us know. There is a long process in doing this.. we would not just 'throw' you into leading a group. You'd become apprentice leaders, we would mentor you, you'd have a chance to lead our group several times, as well as go through training at church. Just something to think about as we continue to pray about the future of our group!

That being said, this week we are having PIZZA! I will make a salad and the Gonzales' will bring dessert. Everyone else please just bring some cash to cover your family's share of the pizza. Last time it was about $4/person, this week should be similar to that. Also, if anyone has some paper plates they would like to contribute to this meal, please bring them, I am OUT!

Dinner Rotation/Order & Ooey Gooey Cake Recipe

Hi guys,

I've gotten a little off-track with the dinner rotation as far as entree's go this summer. I am posting the order for dinner below so I have it, and so you can reference it as needed so you know who you follow! I'll post next week's menu asap!

For those of you who asked, below is the recipe for the dessert I made on Tuesday:

Gooey Butter Cake --- Paula Deen

Cake:
1 18 1/4-ounce package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

Filling:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 16-ounce box powdered sugar


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter and beat together.
Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.

Taco Soup Recipe

Hey guys! I know most of you asked me for this last week, so I'm posting it below for you all. If you missed the dinner menu for next week it is in my last post. Thanks! Have a good weekend! Remember to memorize!!!!

Taco Soup:
1lb lean ground beef
1 onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
2 cans, kidney beans
2 cans, corn
1 pkg ranch
1 pkg taco seasoning
1 can diced green chilies
2 cans diced tomatoes
(Or I use one can diced tomatoes, 1 can diced tomatoes with green chile)

In a pot, brown meat, onion and garlic. Drain well. Add all canned ingredients, do not drain. Let stew for about 20 minutes. Serve with chips.

Ronald McDonald total

Hey all,

An update on Ronald McDonald. Usually we cook for 60 people. We got an email from them on Thursday saying the house is under construction and therefore there are only 30 people to cook for this week. So needless to say we got a lot less food than we thought. Below is what we got and the total. You will see this is a great ministry opportunity and very low cost!!!

Pancake Mix: $5.79
Bacon: $11.99
Sausage: $7.39 x 2= $14.78
Hashbrowns: $4.69
Syrup: $3.99
Ketchup: $2.15
Cooking oil: $2.50
Total: $45.89/6 families. Grand total per family is: $7.65.

We have plenty of butter left over from camping that we will bring.

So, if you haven't paid for camping and girls night yet, please add $7.65 to your total. Otherwise, please just bring $7.65 on Tuesday night to cover your portion!

Ronald MacDonald, Tuesday May 24th

For those of you who missed Tuesday, see below for the details on Ronald MacDonald on Tuesday:

-Meet at Ronald MacDonald House at 4:45 on Tuesday.
-We will ALL be meeting there at that time, kids included. If we end up with too many people inside, a few of us can step out with the kids and just walk around.
-Miles & I will be going to get all the stuff this weekend at Costco. The menu is Bacon, Sausage, Pancakes, Syrup, and Hashbrowns. We will send the total for each couple on Sunday, and if you can bring the $ along on Tuesday (and the camping $ if you haven't paid), that'd be great
-After we are done cooking (probably around 5:45), we will be going to Furr's for dinner. We hope everyone can make it, but if you can't or don't want to, we understand. Everyone will be paying for your own meal and then we can all sit together and hang out.

Sorry for the late notice on this.. I was waiting to see what the guys brought back from the camping trip to do the menu. As suspected, they have a lot leftover. So tomorrow is sort of a left-over night. We will be cooking the fish, the few brats we have left, and the rest as follows:

SO, we are doing homemade pizza and a movie. I think also doing crafts is a great idea, but I cannot commit to planning the craft. SO, if someone is willing to step up and decide what craft to do, the supplies we need, etc, we can talk about it on Tuesday. If not, we will just do pizza and a movie. I'm sorry I can't help with that but I cannot over-commit myself this week! Also, if anyone wants to look up homemade pizza recipes and bring them Tuesday, we can decide what we need and assign out who is bringing what.

Good news, Tim & Elena will be joining us for dinner going forward, so YEA! We will add them in the entree rotation. We are LOVING how this is working out, thank you ALL for being willing to do this!!!

Also, Mikey & Michelle are on deck for next week. Michelle, will you please let me know what you will be bringing for entree next week so I can assign the sides? Thanks!
